Designer Maja Sten describes the Fenix bird as an indistinct species in a land between fantasy and reality. She created it with the idea of making a bottle opener that is also a character to place on the table.

Maja Sten (f.1974) is an illustrator and designer. She studied at Konstfack before she moved to London and finished her studies at the Royal College of Art. After graduating she returned to Stockholm where she opened her studio. Her creations are often naive and colourful, mixing line engraving with her own personal mythology. Her main inspiration comes from folkart and Flora and Fauna.
